MUSTAFA TOBY ECK
It all started when a Swedish-American man noticed a young Egyptian physical therapist on a shuttle bus en route to a hospital in southern Saudi Arabia. Consequently, I was born a few years later.
For the first decade of my life, my family moved to a new city every year; we did halloween in Egypt and Ramadan in Santa Cruz, California. I came of age in a small tourist town, nestled in the metaphysical red rocks of northern Arizona (Sedona). On my tenth birthday, my mom bought me a polaroid camera. I spent most of my allowance developing pictures of everything that glowed around me.
Then I became one of those kids who always had a video camera in his hand; I recorded everything. That’s something that hasn’t changed too much - a childlike fascination with capturing footage.
